The Easter Story 2007

The Easter Story 2007 was he highlight of the spring of 2007. Over 500 people attended at each of the 7 performances of the Easter Story in March and April.

So what is the Easter Story?
In the words of the organizers, it is

"a live musical reinactment of the true-story life of Jesus the Christ, and the events surrounding the first Easter weekend."

People of all age groups and of all backgrouds, from rich to poor, from tall to short, came to see this musical play about the life of Jesus, featuring a live horse and goat. To few of them it was known that the play would have a strong religious background, and few of the ones who did not agree with that background really minded much. The general expression of the people exiting after the show was of awe, some being impressed by the genuinety of the atmosphere created, others by the message of the story, but most certainly all by the acting that was "put on stage" on those nights.

Interview with Andrew Cheeseman, student at Emmanuel Bible College, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada:

[19:50] Stefan: what did you expect when you came to the easter story
[19:50] Stefan: and what did you find
[19:54] Andrew: i expected a presentation of the passion of our Lord
[19:54] Andrew: and what i found? i found a well performed presentation...there were a few lines which threw me off because they required other texts in the gospels...
[19:54] Andrew: but other than that it was good
[19:57] Stefan: Anything else you would like to add?
[19:57] Andrew: i cant really remember to be honest
[19:57] Andrew: i think peters speach was most excellent

Personally, having been part of this event has made a huge difference. The fact that I was able to be part of a large dramatic project, considering my great liking for drama, was really a significant amount of fun, but even disconsidering this aspect, being able to find myself in the midst of a first century world was a unique experience that I would not want to trade in for anything. Although I was aware of the message of the play beforehand, I found that no amount of imagination can live up to seeing things unfold before your eyes. Adding to that the level of realism of the play, the result was truly amazing.

[21:36] Stefan: whats ur opinion on it
[21:38] §åяåmåus - [ I reject your reality and substitute my own.]: I expected to see a common play, nothing to fancy, and gets the message across. I was also expecting it to be no more than an hour. Whatever I expected, was something simple and nothing too extrodinary
[21:39] §åяåmåus - [ I reject your reality and substitute my own.]: However I ended up seeing a big huge production worthy of broadway. I never expected the amount of songs that were sung, or the amazing acting talents that were brought on the stage. I was almost brought to tears in many of the scenes because the characters felt so alive and you could relate to them and feel what they were feeling

In conclusion, attending The Easter Story play at Grandview Church is a very good way of spending an evening around easter. Hopefully every year starting now.
